Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
